On Tuesday, April 28, 2015, Howell Chamber of Commerce held their weekly Breakfast Bonanza at IHop on Route 9. Breakfast Bonanzas are networking events, welcoming business owners and representatives, both Chamber and Non-Chamber members, giving them an opportunity to promote their business, as well as learn about other businesses. Depending on the week, there is either an open discussion or guest speaker. April 28’s Bonanza featured guest speakers Charlie Melita of RAM Enterprises and Mathew Giachetti, President of LifeForce USA. The speakers presented “Saving Lives,” an informative presentation about CPR, heart diseases, and how to become trained.
Each year, one million people die from cardiac arrest, and 400,000 people suffer from SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest). Due to New Jersey’s EMT Services being primarily volunteer, emergency calls may take a few moments before they receive a response. That is why it is very important to become certified in CPR, as well as acquire a defibrillator.
LifeForce USA offers both courses and equipment for such emergencies. Approximately 1/3 of all cardiac arrests have a CPR attempt, and only half of the bystander CPR that is performed is correct. When CPR is used without an AED (defibrillator), there is only a 5% chance of survival, whereas using an AED increases that chance to 40%.
AED machines are user-friendly, with directions written in elementary school level, so remotely anybody can use it. LifeForce also offers a CPR Anytime Kit, which includes a practice doll and DVD, offering step by step instructions on how to save a life during such emergencies.
Although CPR guidelines change every 5 years, with October 15, 2015 being the beginning of the new guidelines, what you have learned a year or two prior is still considered useful. Training for the new guidelines will begin during the late winter/early spring of 2016.
LifeForce USA will be hosting their 6th Annual CPR/AED Awareness Day on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson. They will be honoring heart-attack survivors, offering training, and informing attendees of LifeForce USA services. The event will take place from 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM, which will include a 2-hour lunch buffet. Tickets are $49 for Non-Season Pass holders, and $19 for Season Pass holders. Children 2 and younger are free, and all who pay to attend will receive a t-shirt and wrist band. Other upcoming Howell Chamber events include a General Membership Meeting at The Cabin on May 14th, RSVP required, and ticket prices are $20 for Chamber Members, $25 for Non Members. Guest speaker, Chad Schwarz from Affiliated Foot and Ankle Center, LLP will present on, "How to Increase Your Ranking on Google (SERP)". There will also be a Career Fair on May 23rd at the PAL Building from 10:30AM – 2:30PM. Christa Riddle from All About Writing will offer resume tips, and Rob Imperato from Life Coaching will be role playing job interviews. This event is free, and businesses are asked to bring a table if they wish to join. There will also be an After Hours Networking Event on May 28th at Affiliated Foot and Ankle Center from 5:30PM to 7:30PM. This event is free, attendees are asked to bring a $5 non perishable food item for the Howell Food Pantry.
